Distinguished delegates,
It is with great honor and excitement that I welcome you to the UN Women Committee at BAMUN XXV. This year, we will address one of the most sensitive and thought-provoking issues in global reproductive rights: abortion in complex medical cases, including brain-dead pregnancies, severe fetal anomalies, and maternal health crises. Together, we will analyze this topic through human rights, ethical, and cultural perspectives, while working toward solutions rooted in dignity, equality, and justice.

I am truly thrilled to meet each of you and to see the dedication and creativity you will bring to our sessions. This committee is not only a forum for debate but also a space to collaborate, to exchange ideas, and to amplify your voices as future leaders. Please know that if you have any questions or need support at any time, you can always reach out to me.

I look forward to this incredible journey ahead and cannot wait to see the impact we will create together at BAMUN XXV. For any doubts, you can contact me anytime at cormane.nicole@marymountbq.edu.co

Abortion in Complex Medical Cases: Maternal Rights, Fetal Conditions, and Brain-Dead Pregnancy Cases in Global Ethical Standards
Committee Topic
As debates over reproductive rights continue to shape global discourse, UN Women convenes to address the complex issue of abortion in medically intricate cases — where maternal health, fetal conditions, and brain-dead pregnancies intersect with ethical, legal, and humanitarian considerations. Around the world, inconsistent laws and moral frameworks have left women and medical professionals navigating uncertainty between preserving life and respecting autonomy. These cases expose the urgent need for clear global standards that protect maternal rights while upholding ethical medical practice and human dignity. Delegates must confront the delicate balance between cultural beliefs, international human rights principles, and the evolving responsibilities of the medical community to ensure that every decision regarding life and health is guided by compassion, equity, and justice.
