President, General Assembly

Dear Delegates,

It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the twenty-fifth edition of the Barranquilla Model United Nations BAMUN XXV. As President of the General Assembly, I am deeply inspired by the commitment, intellect, and passion each of you brings to this space of dialogue, diplomacy, and global responsibility.

This year, the General Assembly will confront one of the most urgent and complex challenges of our time: “AI-driven Disinformation and Deepfake Warfare: A Global Threat to Privacy, Peace, and Political Integrity.”

In an era where truth can be digitally manipulated and trust can be weaponized, we must ask ourselves: How do we safeguard democratic institutions, protect individual rights, and preserve peace in the face of synthetic deception? The rise of deepfakes and algorithmic disinformation not only undermines public discourse but threatens the very foundations of international cooperation.

As delegates, you are called to examine the ethical, legal, and technological dimensions of this issue. You will represent nations with diverse perspectives, propose innovative frameworks, and negotiate resolutions that reflect both urgency and wisdom. I encourage you to approach this debate with rigor, empathy, and a spirit of collaboration.

Let BAMUN XXV be more than a simulation let it be a catalyst for leadership, learning, and lasting impact. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to contact me at cardona.gabriela@marymountbq.edu.co

Welcome to the Assembly. The future is yours to shape.

Warm regards,

Gabriela Cardona

AI-Driven Disinformation and Deepfake Warfare: A Global Threat to Privacy, Peace, and Political Integrity

Committee Topic

As artificial intelligence rapidly transforms communication and security, the General Assembly convenes to confront the growing threat of AI-driven disinformation and deepfake warfare — a phenomenon endangering privacy, peace, and political integrity worldwide. The manipulation of digital content through advanced algorithms has enabled the spread of false narratives, the erosion of public trust, and the weaponization of information against states and individuals alike. This emerging form of technological conflict challenges the foundations of democracy, international stability, and human rights. Delegates must work to establish global frameworks that regulate AI usage, strengthen digital literacy, and promote transparency, ensuring that innovation serves truth and security rather than deception and division.
